What are the Specific Functions of AHU Components?
An air
handling unit is a device that is used to condition and circulate air as part
of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC system). Air handlers
connect to the ductwork that passes the conditioned air through the building
and then return it to the AHU and sometimes AHUs supply and return air directly
to and from the space served, without ductwork. There are various units of air
handling unit and each unit performs different functions.
- Tasks
a blower function: Blower is one the important components
of air handling units that performs the function of recycling the air present
in the building. The blower collects the air and conditions it and then
releases it into the building. For better functionality air handling units at
commercial buildings have multiple blowers or fans.
- Function
of conditioning elements: These elements help in heating or
cooling the air and for heating systems there are heating coils used for this
system and cooling coil is used to cool the coil in the air conditioning
systems.
- Function
of filters: Air
handling unit are fitted with filters that perform the function of removing the
dust and other unenviable components of air to make it clean and fresh and
increases the overall life of an air handling unit.
- Function
of humidifier: The humidifier which is present in the unit
performs the function of maintaining the quality of air in the cold climatic
areas. Different types of humidifiers, including vaporizers and ultrasonic
humidifiers are present in different units.
- Function
of damper & mixing chamber: Under air handling unit the dampers
are installed inside it and in order to condition the air more easily and
quickly it mixes the air from the outside of the building and exhaust air from
the inside of the building
- Other components and their function: Sound attenuators and vibration isolators are other substantial components that control the noise and vibrations produced by an air handling unit. Sensors and controllers are other components that regulate different functions of these devices.
